Role of primary electron energy in excitation of exoemission of real metal surface

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Fiziko-Khimicheskij Inst., Moscow (USSR)

Description

The influence of the energy of the exciting electrons on the spectra of thermostimulated exoelectron emission of the real surface of nickel has been investigated in the range of 3-600 eV. The dependence of the exoemission excitation spectra on the surface state has also been studied. It is shown that exoemission is due to the formation of the space charge region in the depth of the hydrated surface layer. The depth of this region occurence is determined by the depth of penetration of primary electrons into the surface layer and, hence, by the energy of primary electrons. The energy dependence of exoemission in this case are conditioned by the active centres distribution in the sample depth
