Usefulness and risk of iodine prophylaxis after reactor accidents
Description
The fact that the thyroid tissue ceases to take up iodine if a certain iodide concentration is swipassed is decisively important for understanding the usefulness and danger of prophylactic iodine treatment. This mechanism enhances radiation protection in cases where radioiodine has to be incorporated. The uptake of radioiodine in the thyroid is stopped on administration of higher doses of iodide. The report discusses the prophylactic and toxic doses with their side-effects, and the indications and contra-indications. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
(orig.)Additional details
