Radiopharmaceuticals for visualization of dopamine transporters in brain

  • 1. Gospital' Univ. Kuopio, Kuopio (Finland)

Description

The results of studies on development of radiopharmaceuticals, related to dopamine transporters (DAT), are considered. New analogs of cocaine for the DAT visualization in brain were used in clinical studies for diagnostics of the Parkinson disease early stages. The labeled 123I 2Β-carbomethoxy-3Β-(4-iodophenyl)tropan was applied for observation of changes in the DAT distribution density in brain through the method of single photon emission tomography. Above 1000 patients from Europe, the USA and Japan were subjected to examination. Development of new radiopharmaceuticals for the DAT with higher selectivity and better characteristics for their clinical application (as the 99mTc tracer) is underway at many laboratories
