Agents for bone marrow imaging: an evaluation
Description
Properties of the following bone marrow scanning agents are tabulated: 198Au-colloid, 59Fe, 52Fe, /sup 99m/Tc-sulfur colloid, /sup 113m/In-colloid, and 111InCl3. Iron-59 is a useful agent but has such a high-energy gamma emission that the sites of active erythroid bone marrow cannot be delineated adequately. Technetium-99m sulfur colloid has the advantage of ready availability, suitable gamma emission of 140 keV, and relatively lower radiation dose. Standardized small human serum albumin microspheres labeled with /sup 99m/Tc with predictable particle size and initial rates of clearance seem to offer the greatest hope for a better agent
