Electrochemical reduction of tantalum in molten fluorides
- 1. AN SSSR, Apatity (Russian Federation). Inst. Khimii i Tekhnologii Redkikh Ehlementov i Mineral'nogo Syr'ya
Description
Electrochemical behaviour of tantalum in the melt FLINAK-K2TaF7 was studied by the method of linear voltammetry. In the temperature range of 845-1088 K Ta(5) ions are reduced to metal in one stage; at polization rates under 0.5 V/s the process is of quasireversible character, at higher rates - of irreversible one. The coefficient of Ta(5) ion diffusion in the temperature range studied varies from 1.12 to 3.70x10-5 cm2/s, diffusion activation energy is 39.1 kJ/mol
