Approximate procedures in high temperature design

Description

In this paper an attempt is made to review those procedures which have recently been developed to deal with load-bearing components which operate at temperatures sufficiently high (temperature greater than 0.3 of the metal melting temperature) for creep deformation and creep rupture to be of concern. The performance of components subjected to constant and variable load and temperature will be discussed, but it is assumed that the load and thermal variations are sufficiently small so that large reversals of strain are avoided.
