DEAδALUS : a novel approach in the search for CP-violation in neutrino sector

Description
The DEAδALUS CP-violation search relies on the appearance of electron antineutrinos in a flux spectrum largely devoid of these particles, which one obtains from the decay of stopped π+. This 'Decay-at-rest' (DAR) technique provides excellent complementary with traditional 'Long-Baseline' experiments; and combine datasets from both sources of neutrinos in the same detectors can provide very substantial gains in sensitivity. Producing an adequate flux of neutrinos for a DAR source requires beams of ∼800 MeV protons at power of several megawatt. Accelerator technologies capable of this are discussed and the status of a cyclotron-based design accelerating H2+ is presented.
