The electronic structure of trivalent thorium compounds

  • 1. Lawrence Berkeley Lab., CA (United States)
  • 2. Univ. of Sussex, Brighton (United Kingdom)

Description

Organometallic compounds of trivalent thorium have been studied for over ten years. The compounds in general are not well-characterized and very often conflicting information exists. Only one trivalent compound [Cp double-prime 3Th] (Cp double-prime = η5-C5H3(SiMe3)2) has been structurally characterized and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements in the solid-state and solution have shown its ground configuration is 6d1. Further results on [Cp double-prime 3Th] and EPR measurements on [In3Th] (In = C9H7-) are presented
