X-ray CdTe detectors

Description

The results of an investigation of x-ray CdTe detector spectrometric parameters within the temperature range from + 20 to -100 deg C are presented. Slight cooling of a detector (-50 deg C) improves significantly its energy resolution due to decreasing current noise and increasing operational potential. Gamma energy spectra of 241Am and x-ray energy spectra of Fe and Cd excited from a 109Cd source have been obtained at -40 deg C and 400 V operational potential. Lines of the x-ray spectra detected are pointed out to be appropriately resolved indicating a possibility of spectroscopy analysis of elements with Z(>=)25 atomic numbers
