This paper summarizes some important features and the main conclusions of the International Post-SMiRT (Structural Mechanics in Reactor Technology) Conference Seminar on Isolation, Energy Dissipation and Control of Vibrations of Structures, which was held at Capri, Italy, on August 23 to 25, 1993 and was cosponsored by the ASME. In particular, emphasized are the state-of-the-art of applications of the innovative antiseismic techniques in bridges and viaducts, civil buildings, nuclear and non-nuclear industrial plants, progress in R ampersand D work and design guidelines development for isolated structures, and prospects for the extended use of the antiseismic techniques in the different fields
