Method and apparatus for extending the duration of operation of a cryogenic pumping system
Creators
Description
A method is described of pumping cryogenic liquid comprising the steps of: applying a first pressure to cryogenic liquid to the inlet of a cryogenic pump; measuring the vapor pressure of the cryogenic liquid at the inlet to the cryogenic pump; measuring total pressure of the cryogenic liquid at the inlet of the pump; differencing the vapor pressure from the total pressure to obtain a measured net positive suction head at the inlet of the pump; adjusting the first pressure until the measured net positive suction head at least equals a predetermined magnitude corresponding to a predetermined minimum net pressure suction head characteristic of the pump; and returning excess cryogenic liquid from the inlet of the cryogenic pump to the storage tank, whereby the duration of operation of the cryogenic pump is extended
