A simple concept shutter for high energy X-ray beams

  • 1. California State Univ., Fullerton (USA). Dept. of Mechanical Engineering

Description

A new design of a high speed shutter system which provides a uniform exposure is described in this paper. The elements of the system are specified. The material for the shutter plates are chosen so that when the system is shut down no X-ray transmission will occur. The mathematical model of the system is derived. The dynamic performance of the electromechanical system driving the shutter plates is optimized by satisfying the requirements for safety, overshoot and speed. A constrained optimization technique is applied for this purpose. The general design approach utilized in this work provides maximum flexibility for the construction of the system which allows for a safe operation with high speed. (orig.)
