Polarographic determination of molybdenum in organo-aqueous solutions

  • 1. AN SSSR, Sverdlovsk. Inst. Khimii

Description

The kinetics of reduction of molybdenum (6) at a dropping mercury electrode in dimethyl sulphoxide and DMSO-H2SO4 solutions has been studied. It has been shown that molybdenum (6) is reduced irreversibly with two electrons involved. The composition of the complexes, which predominate in the solution and discharge at the electrode, has been estimated. A polarographic procedure has been developed of determining molybdenum in steel and alloys in presence of Fe, Ni, Cr, Co, W, Ti, V and other elements without preseparation. The relative standard deviation is not greater than 0.03 if 3-10% of molybdenum is determined
