System demonstration of the nuclear heated steam reformer in AVR-process heat plant

  • 1. Institute for Reactor Development, Nuclear Research Centre, Julich

Description

The research and development programme on nuclear process heat applications in many institutions of the world and in particular in the Federal Republic of Germany has reached a very high level. The AVR- reactor had demonstrated the feasibility of the production of nuclear heat energy in the form of high temperature helium by the operation at the mean outlet temperature of 9500C since 1974. The development programmes for nuclear components and for heat transfer material qualification has shown good results. The heat consuming processes and additional energy conversion processes for the steam reforming and the gasification of coal have reached the level of semi-technical and pilot-plants
