Supersensitive transitions in the absorption spectra of Am III and Eu III ions

  • 1. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan 48202

Description

To characterize the connection between supersensitive transitions in the absorption spectra of trivalent americium and europium ions with the creation of excited state levels a construction of SLJ diagrams is proposed in which the levels are plotted in accordance with their quantum numbers L and J taking into account the multiplicity of the terms. When the SLJ diagrams of Am III and Eu III ions are considered it is clear that there is no connection between quantum-mechanical selection rules and actually observed supersensitive transitions as a result of considerable J mixing of the levels
