Description

After a brief presentation of redundant arrangements designed for the safety of nuclear plants, notably with its different barriers (metallic sheath, primary circuit, containment structure), this information note outlines how security is managed during all the installation operation (frequent and drastic controls, lessons learned), and discusses lessons learned in France from nuclear accidents in the world (Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, Fukushima). It briefly describes the organisation which has been implemented to protect populations and their environment (emergency plan and specific intervention plan). Then specific measures regarding radioactive releases are briefly addressed. Measures taken by the Prefect to protect the population are indicated and briefly described: sheltering, intake of iodine pills
