About mechanism of metal melting

Description
The investigations aimed to reveal the mechanism of metal melting resulted in the derivation of relationships which show that similar results are obtained when considering as kinetic energy of unidimensional oscillator in Tmelt point so the energy of simple shear if root-mean-square atomic displacement at Tmelt are taken into account. The process which gives rise to melting, namely, to crystal dividing into small clusters, can be schematically represented as a simple shear generated by critical thermal oscillations of atoms in a point of melting. Calcination results obtained for a number of metals (Li, Na, K, Rb, Mg, Ba, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Ti, Fe) agree well with experimental data. 8 refs., 1 tab
