Measurement of the #betta#sub(μ) charged current cross section

Description

The Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber, filled with a heavy neon-hydrogen mix, was exposed to a narrow band #betta#sub(μ) beam. Based on the observation of 830 charged current #betta#sub(μ) interactions, the cross section was found to rise linearly with the neutrino energy in the interval, 10 GeV<=Esub(#betta#)< or approximately 240 GeV, with a constant slope of: σsub(#betta#)/Esub(#betta#)=(0.64+-0.05)x10-38cm2GeV-1. This result is discussed in relation to other experiments. (author)
