Offshore physical environmental guidelines

Requirements regarding the observing, forecasting and reporting of physical environmental data for the operators of petroleum drilling or production facilities are presented in several federal, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador regulations. The 2008 offshore physical environmental guidelines (PEGs) are designed to clarify these requirements. The PEGs aim to provide the operator of the offshore installation with programs and best practice procedures allowing to meet the regulatory requirements relating to the physical environment. The development of an efficient and dependable database depends on the information gathered during the program. This database will help operators o conduct environmental effects monitoring programs and design future operations in the area. At the same time, it will benefit the regulators, including the C-NLOPB, the CNSOPB and the NEB, during the performance of their duties regarding environmental assessment, examination of design and operating criteria and review and approval of applications and contingency plans. 19 refs., 6 tabs., 2 figs.
