Description

A review of the EXTRAP concept is presented. The EXTRAP device consists of a classical Z-pinch being immersed in an octupole field generated by currents in a set of current rods. There is no axial magnetic field along the pinch axis. This configuration has closed field lines and closed particle drift orbits inside the separatrix, fully axisymmetric geometry and a high average plasma beta value and therefore constitutes a magnetic configuration which seems interesting for fusion applications. Abstract (Portuguese)
