Description

The problem of the levitation force between a small superconducting cylinder in the Meissner state and a cylindrical permanent magnet was analyzed. The demagnetization effect was included using the demagnetizing factor approximation. We obtained analytical expression of the levitation force as a function of the dimensions of the magnet as well as the superconductor. The results show that the levitation force has a maximum value that is strongly sensitive to the radius and height of the magnet as well as the thickness of the superconductor. Including the demagnetization effect results an increase in the levitation force. Our results are in good agreement with those previously reported in literature
