Lower Miocene uplift of the Los Reales and Ojen nappes (Internal Betic Zone, Spain) from apatite fission track analysis

Description
A thermo-chronological study, using apatite fission-track analysis, was conducted to constrain the denudation and uplift history of the internal zones (Ojen ad Los Reales Alpujarrides nappes) of the Western Betic Cordilleras. A major event occurred about 18-16 Ma ago, at the end of Lower Miocene time. This event corresponds to a phase of extensional tectonics. This extensional event is coeval with the accumulation of the detrital material which unconformably overlies the internal zones. Therefore wa assume that extensional tectonics events occurred during Lower Miocene time. (authors). 34 refs., 1 fig
