Description
Automatic translation: The particle size distribution is one of the important factors that determine the physical properties of the soil. Such important properties as plasticity, porosity, shear resistance, compressibility, shrinkage, swelling, capillary rise height, water permeability, etc. depend on it. Changes in the granulometric composition of soils also cause changes in their properties. For example, with a decrease in the size of particles, the permeability of soils decreases: if sands have high permeability, then in sandy loams it is much lower, and in clays the permeability is practically zero [1]. With a decrease in the particle size, the content of silicon oxide decreases, the amount of iron and aluminum sesquioxides increases, and, which is especially important for the processes of sorption of radionuclides, the content of humus and exchangeable cations of calcium, magnesium and potassium increases. Fine-dusty and silty particles have the highest content of organic matter. In the larger fractions (medium and coarse dust), the humus content drops sharply, in the fine sand fraction, humus is practically absent [2].
Abstract (Russian)
[2].Additional details
