Fusion reactor design: On the road to commercialization
Description
The worldwide effort in fusion is now approximately 2 billion dollars per year and over 12 billion dollars has been invested since 1951 in developing this energy source for the 21st century. A vital component of the past efforts in fusion research has been the conceptual design activities performed by scientists and engineers around the world. Almost 80 such major designs of Tokamak, Mirror, Laser and Ion Beam Reactors have been published and this article discusses how recent conceptual designs have afftected our perception of future fusion reactor performance. Abstract (German)
Die weltweite Anstrengung in der Fusion betraegt heute ungefaehr 2 Milliarden Dollar pro Jahr und seit 1951 sind bisher 12 Milliarden Dollar in die Entwicklung dieser Energiequelle fuer das 21. Jahrhundert investiert worden. Ein wichtiger Bestandteil dieser Anstrengungen in der Fusionsforschung waren die durchgefuehrten Konzeptstudien von Wissenschaftlern und Ingenieuren in der ganzen Welt. Beinahe 80 solcher Auslegungsstudien von Tokamaks, Mirrors, Laser- und Ionenstrahlreaktoren sind bisher publiziert worden. Dieser Artikel diskutiert, wie neuere Konzepte unsere Auffassung ueber kuenftige Fusionsreaktoren beeinflusst haben. (orig.)Additional details
