Exposure of the nation due to internal irradiation

  • 1. Niigata Univ. (Japan). School of Medicine

Description

The genetically significant dose of the nation due to internal irradiation is thought to increase unless short half-life nuclides such as sup(99m)Tc are used; the value of 0.26 m rem/year in 1971 will increase greatly. Radiopharmaceuticals, even of test dose, will definitely pose problems as to the nation's exposure to radiation due to environmental contamination unless they are used in completely equipped facilities under sufficient radiation control. Accordingly, RI should be used for medical purposes only in fully equipped hospitals after consideration of their geographical stationing. (Chiba, N.)
