Neutron scattering on even isotopes of tin

Description

The differential elastic and inelastic scattering cross sections at 11 and 24 MeV, and total cross sections for neutrons between 5 to 12 MeV and 20 to 26 MeV, have been measured for 116118120122124Sn. The measured angular distributions covered an angular range from 150 to 1550 in steps of 50. Analysis of the data has been carried out to investigate the energy and isospin dependence of both the real and imaginary parts of the potential as well as to search for an appropriate nuclear radius dependence on the mass number A for the tin isotopes. The obtained parameters describe the angular distributions as well as the total cross sections rather well. The analyses of the data at energies higher 20 meV showed that total cross section data alone is not sufficient in determining the energy and isospin coefficient and that differential cross section data is needed, at one energy at least, for accurate determination of these coefficients. The dependence of the nuclear radius R on the mass of the target A was also investigated
