Direct determination of fluoride ions on the base of zirconium reactions with triphenylmethane group reagents

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Geokhimii i Analiticheskoj Khimii

Description

The reaction of zirconium with xylenol orange and methyl-thymol blue provides direct photometric determination of fluoride-ions. The molar extinction coefficient of a complex with fluorides is, in the case of zirconium with xylenol orange, 3.5x104, and, in the case of methyl-thymol blue, it is 1.7x104. The optimum conditions for determining fluorine are pH=1.9, lambda=560 and 590 nm, respectively. The method is selective, it provides direct photometric determination of fluorides in the presence of large amounts of cations and anions
