Fissile material holdup monitoring in the Prepp process

  • 1. Idaho National Engineering Lab., Idaho Falls, ID (USA)

Description

This paper reports that in the holdup monitoring system serves three general functions. First the assurance of criticality safety through Pu holdup mass measurements, second, verification of assumptions employed in the criticality analyses during the initial TRU operational phase, and third, to provide mass data supportive of facility operations. In addition the system is purposely designed to be flexible in regards to the addition or removal of fixed real-time instruments. This will minimize system restructure efforts as lessons are learned during the initial TRU operational phase
