Analysis of hypercharge exchange reactions

In this paper, the authors give a satisfactory description of all high energy experimental data for the hypercharge exchange reaction π+ rho → Κ+Σ+, its line-reversed partner Κ- rho → π-Σ+ and various other reactions related to them by SU(3) symmetry by using a pole plus cut model. The authors analyse the literature on experimental data of differential and integrated cross sections, polarization, normalized cross section differences etc. for these reactions and have discussed the prominent features of these data. A critique of earlier theoretical models has been given and it is shown that these models fail to give a comprehensive explanation of various characteristics of hypercharge exchange reactions. They then propose a pole plus cut model for the reactions. They then propose a pole plus cut model for the reactions π+ rho → Κ+ Σ+ and Κ- rho → π- Σ+ by introducing a cut in the flip amplitude. This model explains all characteristics of these reactions for rho/sub L/>5 GeVc including the very recent measurements of October, 1984. By using SU(3) symmetry, various other reactions such as π- rho → Κ0Λ, Κ- rho → π0 Λ etc. have also been explained without introducing any additional parameter. Finally, an amplitude structure in terms of pole and cut as well as vector and tensor contributions is given. This is for the first time that a simultaneous comprehensive explanation of the high energy data for hypercharge exchange reactions has been given
