Plasma opposing material and manufacturing method thereof

Description

A plasma opposing material to be used for walls of a plasma thermonuclear reactor comprises a laminate of a surface layer and a rear face layer. The surface layer comprises a sintered compound material of a plurality of carbon fibers and boron carbide filled between the carbon fibers. Alternatively, it is a sintered compound material of a plurality of carbon fibers, boron carbide and carbon filled between the carbon fibers. The rear face layer comprises a compound sintered material of the carbon fiber continuous with the surface layer and a heat conductive metal filled between the carbon fibers. It is preferable that the heat conductivity of the laminate at room temperature is 180W/m·K or more in both surface and rear face directions of the laminate. The surface layer preferably comprises from 40 to 80vol% of carbon fibers, from 4 to 45vol% of boron carbide and from 8 to 12vol% of carbon. The rear face layer preferably comprises from 40 to 80vol% of carbon fibers and from 18 to 58vol% of a metal. (I.N.)
