An apparatus for gas microanalysis

Description

An apparatus has been designed for the measurement and analysis of gas quantities below 1,000 mm3 PTN, provided that these gases do not attack mercury and that at ambient temperature and under low pressure they obey the Mariotte's law (measured by the MacLeod gauge). Quantities of gas between 0.5 and 1000 mm3 are measured with an accuracy greater than 2 pc. Between 0.1 and 0.5 mm3, the error remains below 7 pc, and quantities of 10-2 mm3 are detectable. The apparatus is equipped with a system for breaking vacuum sealed tubes containing the gas samples. The case of the analysis of a mixture consisting of H2, O2 and CO2 is described. Abstract (French)

L'appareil est concu pour la mesure et l'analyse de quantites de gaz inferieures a 1.000 mm3 P.T.N., a condition que ces gaz n'attaquent pas le mercure et qu'a temperature ambiante et sous faible pression, ils obeissent a la loi de Mariotte (mesure a la jauge de MacLeod). Les quantites de gaz comprises entre 0,5 et 1.000 mm3 sont mesurees avec une precision superieure a 2 pc. Entre 0,1 et 0,5 mm3, l'erreur reste inferieure a 7 pc. Des quantites de 10-2 mm3 sont detectables. L'appareil est muni d'un systeme permettant de casser sous vide des tubes scelles contenant les echantillons de gaz. On decrit plus particulierement le cas de l'analyse d'un melange compose de H2, O2 et CO2. Reproduction d'un article publie dans le 'Journal de Chimie Physique', t. 50, no. 6, juin 1953.
