Description
The field of nonlinear optics is at the forefront of current research because of its importance in providing the key functions of frequency shifting, optical modulation, optical switching optical logic and optical memory for the emerging technologies in areas such as telecommunication signal processing and optical interconnections. The search for new and efficient NLO materials has resulted in the development of a new class of materials called semiorganics. These materials have the potential for combining the high optical nonlinearity and chemical flexibility of organic materials with the thermal stability and mechanical robustness of inorganic NLO materials.
