Description
In order to explain irregularities observed in the angular distributions of elastic 6He scattering on 208Pb at subbarrier energies of Elab=14 and 16 MeV by the dynamical polarization of the 6He projectile in the strong Coulomb field of the target nucleus, a method has been proposed for calculating the Coulomb polarization potential on the basis of the adiabatic approximation of the resonating-group method. It has been shown that data cannot be satisfactorily reproduced with the potential computed in this way. In all probability, the observed effects are caused by a strong coupling between the elastic-scattering channel and the channels featuring the excitation of the lowest 2+ and 1- states of the 6He nucleus
