Numerical determination of profile parameters for fano resonance with definite energy resolution

Description

A partially convoluted fitting procedure is proposed to determine the natural width Γ, the asymmetry parameter q, and the resonance energy Er for overlapped Fano-type resonances embodied in a continuum spectrum measured with a definite energy resolution. Compared with the direct convoluted fitting method, this procedure is successful in reducing the truncation error. As an evaluation, an electron energy loss spectrum of double excitation of helium, measured at 0o with an incident electron energy of 2.5 keV and an energy resolution of 80 meV, is analyzed. The agreement between present results and previous works shows the validity of this procedure
