Plans for a cryogenic detector experiment on the 17-keV neutrino

Description
The existence of a neutrino of mass 17 keV/c2 would constitute new physics beyond the standard model, and it is necessary to confirm the existence of such a neutrino beyond doubt. Calorimetric measurements with good energy resolution of a number of β- emitters are planned, starting with 63Ni. The measurements will be carried out with a new type of cryogenic detector based on the detection of phonons with arrays of superconducting tunnel junctions. (author) 11 refs.; 5 figs
