Description

The influence of heat treatment on the precipitation and growth of hardening precipitates in Al-Mg-Si commercial alloy were investigated. It was observed that quenching rate after solution treatment on important role in determining the peak hardness in these alloys. Quenching rate was controlled using two different mediums, that is, water and brine solution. A co-relation between hardening response and subsequent ageing treatment was established. Microstructural investigation using TEM was also employed to identify and monitor the growth of hardening precipitates. (author)
