Radiology guidelines. Editorial

This article intends to outline the evolution of the guidelines of the Royal College of Radiologists Working Party on the effective use of diagnostic radiology, place them in the context of clinical guidelines both nationally and internationally, to examine problems associated with implementation and to assess the degree to which the guidelines have been effective in modifying clinical referral patterns.
