Soft X-ray grating beamline for secondary-battery analysis

Description
At the request for characterization of secondary batteries, we have designed and constructed a new soft X-ray grating beamline (BL-11) at the SR center of Ritsumeikan University. The BL-11 beamline can cover the photon energy from 50 to 1200 eV by using three different varied line spacing gratings (VLSG), and includes (1) simultaneously applicable, three kinds of detection systems with different probing depth, (2) a compact sample transfer system, and (3) an effective differential pumping system. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of BL-11 for secondary-battery analysis, ex-situ XAFS and in-situ XAFS experiments were carried out for a charge/discharge cycled Li2MnO3 cathode and for a LiMn2O4 cathode during charge/discharge processes, respectively. Abstract (Japanese)
立命館大学SRセンターにおいて,蓄電池解析に特化した軟X線XAFSビームラインBL-11の建設を行った.BL-11では刻線密度,溝深さの異なる3つの不等間隔刻線平面回折格子を用いることで50∼1200eV領域のXAFS測定が可能であり,多モード同時計測システム,大気非暴露測定システム,有効作動排気システムを有している.このビームラインの有用性を実証するため,充放電サイクル試験を行ったLi2MnO3正極についてのex-situ XAFS測定と充放電過程におけるLiMn2O4正極のin-situ XAFS測定を行った.前者の実験から多モード同時計測システムによる深さ方向分析が有用であること,後者の実験から新開発の全固体蓄電池用測定セルが正極の化学状態変化の直接観察に利用できることが,それぞれ示された.(著者)Additional details
