Description
A recently developed model for high temperature helium embrittlement is discussed. The model is based on the nucleation and growth of grain boundary cavities under the influence of He and external stress. Analytical expressions for the time to rupture as a function of stress, temperature, He-content and material parameters are derived. The results for the in-pile case are substantially different from those obtained from post-irradiation creep tests. For a quantitative prediction of the time to rupture from the theoretical expressions more information on the properties of helium in metals is needed. (author)
