Blur-circle measurements on a high-energy laser mirror
Description
The purpose of the system of diamond-turned mirrors for the high-energy carbon dioxide laser is to concentrate the light energy into a spot less than one millimetre in diameter. A collimating and a focusing mirror for the system were illuminated with the expanded beam of a helium/neon laser to measure the size of the focal spot (blur circle), using visible light. The diameter of the blur circle was found to be approximately 0.6 mm (0.024 in.) in diameter. (U.S.)
