Cooper pair breaking and isotope effect coefficient variation in high-Tc superconductors
Description
The effect of pair breaking on the isotope effect coefficient a = -d ln Tc/d ln M in La2-xSrxCuO4 and Pr-, Ca-, and Zn-doped YBa2Cu3O7-x and EuBa2Cu3O7-x is studied using the generalized Abrikosov-Gorkov theory recently employed by Singh and Kishore for superconductivity. It is argued that the isotope effect coefficient a can be further enhanced, in agreement with experimental observation, by considering the dependence of the characteristic scattering time τs for Cooper pairs on the concentration n of impurities (both magnetic and nonmagnetic) and the disorder ignored by them
