On possibility of vanadium converter slags conversion by selective chlorination

Description
It has been experimentally established that, as a result of chlorination of converter slags with an air mixture of hydrogen chloride within a temperature range from 550 to 770 deg C, vanadium and iron can be separated from the other slag components in the form of a hydroxy trichloride and a trichloride, respectively. The rate of formation of the volatile compounds of vanadium and iron, as a function of temperature, is described by a curve with a maximum at 690 deg C. The rate-determining step of the process in the high temperature range is the diffusion of gaseous products (VOCl3, FeCl3, Fe2Cl6) from the depth of a mass of solid particles or through the film of a melt of fusible chlorides
