The medical surveillance of the individuals who supposedly received high radiation doses due to the breaking of Cesium-137 source from gamma radiation therapy apparatus, is presented. The study includes a serie of evaluations and procedures such as periodic clinical examinations, and diagnostic procedures. Among the special procedures unusual in routine medical practice, the radiochemical analysis of urine and feces, and the whole-body counting are mentioned, to evaluate the total and residual body burden of Cesium-137 in the organism. Following the acute phase of radiation effects on the organism, such examinations intend to detect, early, the functional or organic changes which may appear during the first years after exposure. Apresenta-se o acompanhamento medico dos individuos que supostamente receberam altas doses de radiacao, devido a quebra de uma fonte de Cesio-137 de um aparelho de terapia com radiacao gama. O estudo inclui uma serie de avaliacoes e procedimentos tais como, exames clinicos periodicos, e processos de diagnostico. Entre os procedimentos especiais nao usuais na pratica medica de rotina, mencionam-se as analises radioquimicas da urina e das fezes, e a contagem de corpo inteiro, para avaliar as queimaduras do corpo total e residual do Cesio-137 no organismo. Seguindo a fase aguda dos efeitos da radiacao sobre o organismo, tais exames pretendem detetar antecipadamente variacoes funcionais ou organicas que possam surgir durante os primeiros anos apos a exposicao.
