Description

A hydrogeochemical study was carried out for uranium concentration in groundwater of Namakkal district for the base line study. The aim of study is to determine uranium concentration in lithology-wise with their groundwater parameters. Gamma radiation level and uranium concentration are discussed with rock types. Five types of rocks are being noted in the study area, namely, Fissile hornblende biotite gneiss, Charnockite, Granitic/acidic rock, Anorthosite and Alluvium. pH and ORP values indicate uranium dissolved at neutral pH and higher oxidation condition in the study area. The correlation indicates the weathering and leaching processes enhance U in groundwater. (author)
