Imagery by high resolution acoustic microscopy of the pellet-cladding interface in a fuel rod

Description

This contribution to a congress reports the development of a high resolution acoustic microscope to be introduced into a high activity cell in the LECA-STAR in Cadarache. This microscope, which possesses an ultrasound transducer with a focussing lens, is adapted to the analysis of the pellet-cladding interface, and will allow the image of the inner face of the cladding of an irradiated rod to be obtained from the surface. The authors present this new type of microscope and the first results obtained in laboratory on an irradiated cladding. They notably report a study of the microscope resolution
