Description
The preparation of uranium oxides by thermal decomposition of solid uranyl formate was investigated. Under static conditions, this reaction can produce UO2 hydrate nearly quantitatively, which is attributed to reaction of evolved CO with the primary UO3 product. In the course of this work the new compound ammonium uranyl formate, (NH4)2UO2(COOH)4 was prepared and characterized. The reactions involved are discussed. (author)
