New ternary uranium compounds

Description

As a part of our studies on the magnetic and structural properties of ternary uranium intermetallics we have obtained the following new compounds: UMe2/Si or Ge/2, where Me=3d metals, UAl2 /Si or Ge/2, UAl/Si or Ge/ and UCuSi. Their preparation and the unit-cell parameters are reported. The following problems arise regarding the UMe2/Si or Ge/2 type crystal strucutre, the contraction of the unit-cell volume for cobalt compounds and the possibility of the occurrence of the magnetic ordering in both the uranium and 3d metal sublattices.
