A rapid method for investigation of surface alpha-contamination

Description

The paper describes a method for identification of alpha-emitters sampled from contaminated surfaces in nuclear facilities with adhesive tape. It has been found that the thickness of such a sample is sufficiently thin for the observation of alpha-lines. When a solid state track detector is used, the density of the alpha-particle tracks can be measured within the range 105 -107 α-particles per cm2. A procedure for obtaining alpha-particle autoradiographs of the sticking tape samples with a nitrocellulose solid state detector is developed. The method can be applied for rapid screening of nuclear facilities. (author)
