Spectroscopy of electrons in surface states outside liquid helium
- 1. Bell Labs., Murray Hill, N.J. (USA)
Description
Electrons can be bound 100 A above a free surface of liquid helium in the potential well formed by the sum of the long-range attractive image potential and the short-range electron-atom repulsive potential. Spectroscopic studies of electronic transitions between bound states are conveniently performed at fixed frequency by utilizing Stark-effect tuning of the splittings. (Auth.)
