A xenon time projection chamber for double β decay
Description
A xenon time projection chamber for the study of double β decay of 136Xe is described. With an active volume of 207 liters of enriched 136Xe gas at 5 atm, this TPC should be capable of detecting neutrinoless double β decay with half-lives of up to 1024 y, and thus should uncover neutrinos if their mass is greater than 0.5 eV. 16 refs.; 6 figs
